Father Or Higher Power

At times we will hear a person, after having narrowly escaped danger, refer to a “higher power” that saved them from harm. We must then wonder how they pray to that higher power when other needs arise. In this Sunday's (January 29, 2012), sermon, we will talk about how Jesus wants to be more than some obscure force in our life; he wants to be our Father. www.christiancrusaders.org

Scripture: Galatians 4:4-7
But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.

Renewing Reflections
It is our prayer that Renewing Reflections will be a blessing in your life this coming week. This quote is taken from the sermon A Personal Relationship With Christ delivered on Christian Crusaders June 20, 2010 by Rev. Larsen:

Can you really have this personal relationship with God? Yes, you can, and it’s a relationship that grows the longer we are in daily conversation with him. This is the gift God offers to our world, and he has chosen us to take this message to people who are living apart from their Creator.

On the Light Side
A young boy had just gotten his driving permit. He asked his father, who was a minister, if they could discuss the use of the car. His father took him to his study and said to him, “I’ll make a deal with you. You bring your grades up, study your Bible a little, and get your hair cut, and we’ll talk about it.”

After about a month the boy came back and again asked his father if they could discuss use of the car. They again went to the father’s study where his father said, “Son, I’ve been real proud of you. You have brought your grades up and you’ve studied your Bible diligently, but you didn’t get your hair cut!”

The young man waited a moment and replied, “You know Dad, I’ve been thinking about that. You know, Samson had long hair, Moses had long hair, Noah had long hair, and even Jesus had long hair . . .” To which his father replied, “Yes, and they walked everywhere they went!”

God's Word in My Heart

Who guides and directs you in making decisions? The Old Testament Psalmist also asked that question when he said, “How can a young man keep his way pure?” We will discover his answer in sermon beginning this Sunday on http://www.christiancrusaders.org/

Scripture: Psalm 119:9-16
How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.
I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
Praise be to you, O Lord;
teach me your decrees.
With my lips I recount
all the laws that come from your mouth.
I rejoice in following your statutes
as one rejoices in great riches.
I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways.
I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.

Renewing Reflections
It is our prayer that Renewing Reflections will be a blessing in your life this coming week. This quote is taken from the sermon Is It Biblical? delivered on Christian Crusaders July 23, 2000 by Rev. Larsen:

If our faith is to have meaning, it must go beyond our feelings and what we think is true. There must be an authority that speaks and to which we will listen. That authority for the Christian is God's Holy Word. You can deny it, but you cannot change it and remain honest. Therefore, we are called on by Scripture to keep our heads in all situations, endure hardship if necessary for the faith, and point wandering, searching people to Christ, who has clearly taught what to believe and do.

On the Light Side
Jack was single and decided life would be more fun if he had a pet. So he went to the pet store and told the owner that he wanted to buy an unusual pet. After some discussion, he finally bought a talking centipede, which came in a little white box to use for his house.

Jack took the box home, found a good location it, and decided he would start off by taking his new pet to church. So he asked the centipede in the box, “Would you like to go to church with me today? We will have a good time.” But there was no answer from his new pet.

This bothered Jack a bit, so after a few minutes he asked him again. “How about going to church with me and receive blessings?” But, again, there was no answer from his new friend and pet.

So he waited a few minutes more, thinking about the situation. He decided to ask him one more time; this time putting his face up against the centipede’s house and shouting, “Hey in there! Would you like to go to church with me and learn about the Lord???”

A little voice came out of the box, “I heard you the first time! I'm putting on my shoes.”

He Brought His Brother to Jesus

Have you ever met someone who made such a great impression on you that you wanted others to meet him? This was Andrew’s experience. When he met Jesus, he then led his brother John to meet him too. In this week’s sermon, we are going to talk about who led you to Christ and who you will introduce to Him.

Scripture: John 1: 35-51
The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”

When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”

They said, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?”

“Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”

So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent the day with him. It was about the tenth hour.

Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus.

Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).

The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”

Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote – Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

“Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.

“Come and see,” said Philip.

When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said to him, “Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false.”

“How do you know me?” Nathanael asked.

Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”

Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.”

Jesus said, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You shall see greater things than that.” He then added, “I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

Renewing Reflections
It is our prayer that Renewing Reflections will be a blessing in your life this coming week. This quote is taken from the sermon Out Recruiting delivered on Christian Crusaders January 19, 2003 by Rev. Larsen:

. . . there is a place for us in carrying the Gospel to the world. There is someone in this world with whom you can share the Gospel better than any other person. We never know what some of the people will accomplish as witnesses for Jesus. . . . It takes commitment to be a disciple of Jesus. Doubts come to the lives of all disciples, but the Holy Spirit will see us through those difficult hours.

On the Light Side
A four-year-old boy and his father went to the beach where they found a dead seagull lying on the sand. The boy asked his father, “Dad, what happened to the birdie?”

His dad told him, “Son, the bird died and went to heaven.”"

Then the boy asked, “And God threw him back down?”
